Business Retention and Expansion Tools

BC BusinessCounts

Stronger business relationships. Better information. More effective economic development.

BC BusinessCounts is BCEDA’s business retention and expansion program, powered by ExecutivePulse, a customer relationship management (CRM) platform built specifically for economic development.

Launched by BCEDA in 2010, the program helps communities understand the needs of local businesses, coordinate support, and turn business outreach into meaningful action. Through BCEDA’s licensing arrangement, participating organizations can access ExecutivePulse at a discounted rate.

Turn business conversations into action

Effective economic development starts with understanding your businesses—their challenges, growth plans, and opportunities.

BC BusinessCounts brings business records, contacts, visit notes, surveys, and follow-up activities into one organized system. It helps your team maintain relationships, identify emerging issues, connect businesses with resources, and track the work needed to support retention and growth.

The platform can also support investment attraction, entrepreneurial development, workforce initiatives, and collaboration with community partners.

Practical tools for your team

ExecutivePulse offers flexible features that can be configured around your organization’s priorities and workflows, including:

  • Business and contact profiles: Keep company information, communications, documents, and relationship histories together.

  • Outreach and surveys: Gather business intelligence through visits, surveys, and coordinated outreach.

  • Tasks and project tracking: Assign responsibilities, manage deadlines, and monitor follow-up activities.

  • Dashboards and reporting: Turn information into charts and reports for planning, board presentations, and stakeholder updates.

  • Mapping: View business locations and geographic patterns to inform your work.

  • Mobile access: Access records and capture information while working in the community.

  • Microsoft Outlook integration: Connect email, contacts, and calendars with the CRM.

  • Access controls: Manage information sharing through user roles, permissions, and privacy settings.

Training and ongoing support

ExecutivePulse includes unlimited webinar training, ongoing consultation, system configuration assistance, and 24/7 technical support at no additional cost. Whether you are launching a program, welcoming new staff, or expanding your use of the system, support is available to help your team make the most of it.

Explore community data

ExecutivePulse also provides a public community data resource drawing on Statistics Canada and other Canadian sources. Explore demographic, economic, and workforce information to add context to your local business outreach and planning. This will be an expanded feature in the spring of 2027.
