Economic Development Election Toolkit

Provincial municipal and regional elections in British Columbia

2026 Edition

A practical guide to explaining economic development, discussing community priorities with candidates and following through after the election.

Economic development helps communities support existing businesses, create employment opportunities, attract appropriate investment, and prepare for economic change.

Elections are an opportunity to ask how public decisions will support that work.

Who this toolkit is for...

Economic development professionals, local and Indigenous governments, economic development organizations, Community Futures, chambers of commerce, business improvement associations and community partners.

How to use it...

Select the priorities that matter locally. Pair them with credible evidence, use the questions for the appropriate order of government, and record the actions candidates are prepared to advance.

BCEDA would like to acknowledge the toolkit prepared for the Tourism Industry by TIABC. Its toolkit provided some great ideas on how to generate one for Economic Development.
