The British Columbia Economic Development Association (BCEDA) is pleased to share its Strategic Framework for 2026–2028, officially adopted by the BCEDA Board of Directors on May 11, 2026. This framework provides a clear roadmap for the Association as it continues to support economic development practitioners, communities, Indigenous governments, local governments, and partner organizations throughout British Columbia.
The Strategic Framework was developed to guide BCEDA through a period of leadership transition while ensuring the Association remains focused on delivering value to members, strengthening the profession, and helping communities build resilient and prosperous local economies. The framework reflects the evolving needs of economic development professionals and the changing economic landscape facing communities across the province.
The framework is built around five interconnected strategic priorities:
Strengthen the Profession
Support and advance the economic development profession through professional development, certification, training, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing opportunities that help practitioners succeed in an increasingly complex environment.
Support Economic Resilience and Recovery
Provide leadership, tools, resources, and programs that help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from economic disruptions while building long-term resilience and sustainability.
Convene and Connect the System
Bring together economic development professionals, Indigenous communities, local governments, businesses, industry, educational institutions, and other partners to foster collaboration, innovation, and shared solutions.
Advance Advocacy and Awareness
Serve as the leading voice for economic development in British Columbia by promoting the value of the profession, advocating for member priorities, and strengthening relationships with government and key stakeholders.
Ensure a Sustainable Association
Maintain a strong, financially sustainable, and member-focused organization capable of delivering high-quality services, supporting future growth, and ensuring long-term organizational success.
The Strategic Framework is designed to be a practical guide rather than a static document. Annual work plans, programs, events, partnerships, advocacy initiatives, and member services will be aligned with these priorities to ensure BCEDA continues to deliver meaningful outcomes for members and communities across British Columbia.
The framework also recognizes the importance of collaboration, economic reconciliation, disaster resilience, workforce development, innovation, and community capacity-building as essential elements of a strong and sustainable economy.
We encourage members, partners, and stakeholders to review the Strategic Framework and accompanying presentation to learn more about BCEDA's vision, priorities, and planned actions for 2026–2028.
